Anyone know anything about these? I am quite tempted by them, as they
seem to fit the purpose that I have. However I am a little concerned
about spares, etc. Also, there is one in a local garage (S reg), which
has been there long enough to drop in price from £12k+ to under £8k.
Mkaes me wonder if it's just that one, or that someone knows something
that I don't!!

TIA

John

Just checked my CAP Grey Import price guide (yes I do occasionally trade in
them!), and £8000 is just about right for a 98 S plate, 2.5 tdi, with 70000
kms. £12000 was taking the p**s somewhat! If it's a 99 with lower miles then
it's a good price. If it's a 3.0 tdi 1999 then it's a great price! (tell me
where it is!)

Being a 98 model it should be the 'facelift' version with a slightly rounded
front end and all over one colour paint scheme - which i think looks a bit
nicer than the 2 tone ones, but, hey, thats just my opinion!

Toyota main dealers are now fully geared up for Grey imports & my local one
reckons they can get any bit from Japan within 14 working days or sooner.
The only thing I've had to do to some older ones are window motors, better
stereos and rustproofing.

Insurance can be a bit tricky, but it gets better every year. I currently
use Adrian Flux and have my personal current grey import with them for £340
fully comp (96 Pajero)

Good luck! Rich M

I had one and was glad to get rid of it. A common (and expensive) fault is
blowing a head gasket and usually cracking the cylinder head. Not the
reliability I had come to expect from Toyota.

Thanks for that - seems rather odd when the Hilux on which it is based
seems to be the best seller world-wide!!

That was the old 2.4 engine (the 3 litre is a much better beast that is also
used in the Landcruiser Colorado) but it depended upon how well you
monitored the vehicle while driving and how well maintained it was!
