Morning,

This might seem like a stupid question, but if I were to tow a trailer with another 90 on the back with my 2.5 N/A would it really slow down or would it still run at a similar speed as it usually does on day to day usage? I ask this because the 12J engine supposedly has a lot of low down torque. I know that they are not overly fast (not bad though), but would it really struggle to keep up pulling another 90 or would I not really notice all that big a difference?

Thanks in advance for any help!

i wana get me towin licence....how old do you have to be to do it?

i had a quick look through pikeys link and couldnt find anything bout age. And what is MAM?!
yer dint look very fooking hard did yer Car and trailer practical driving test : Directgov - Motoring

MAM is Maximum Admissible Mass or the total combined weight of towing vehicle trailer and load.

Applying for your trailer test is the same process as applying for you driving test.

Car licences obtained on or after 1 January 1997

If you passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 you're limited to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes maximum authorised mass towing a trailer up to 750 kgs, or a vehicle and trailer combination up to 3.5 tonnes MAM providing the MAM of the trailer doesn't exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle. You'll need to pass an additional driving test in B+E if you wish to tow a caravan or trailer combination which exceeds these weight limits.

as far as i can understand from that, i can tow any weight as long as the trailer doesnt weigh more than the vehicle im towing with, and the total weight of vehicle and trailer isnt more than 3.5 T.

i just went through the motions of bookin a test to see what the price was. £89! mite see if i can get my boss to put me through it :D;)

It would do it not too bad at lower speeds, I towed a 2 ton transit tipper loaded with 2 ton of stones off the dual carrage way a few weeks back and it managed no problem, then proceeded to pull it up a fairly steep hill doing a good 30mph.

But when towing a trailer of that weight you should be going fairly slow and keeping good braking distances etc.

As said above your licence will not let you tow this weight.

The weight you can tow is a factor of the weight of the tow vehicle, so you can tow more legaly in a 110 than a 90 and more in a 90 than a Corsa.

The more than a corsa bit I understand but not the bit about their been a difference between a 110 and a 90. what are the maximum towing weights for these two vehicles?

Both 3.5 tonne but a 110 is about 1.8 tonne i think so a 90 would have to be lighter wich basically means a 110 would be a better tower for big weights

No its not about the towing cap of the LR - its about the weight of the LR, a 110 is a bit heavier so as the towing weight is a factor of the tow vehicle weight the weight you can legaly tow increases.

its a recommendation that you dont tow any more than the weight of the towing vehicle, however both the 110 and the 90 are allowed to tow up to 3.5T, as is the disco and rangie.

I thought the recommended towed weight was 85% of the towing vehicle, but if you were experienced then you could push the towed weight to the same as the towing vehicle, but you'd be breaking the law if the towed weight exceeded the kerb weight of the towing vehicle.
