Have a 2000 dhse auto, will be starting to tow a lot more this year and have been given a few pieces of technical advice, of which I'd like some thoughts on.

Additonal oil cooler for gearbox
Additional oil cooler for engine
Add an oil catch tank and remove breather from intercooler piping

So, is any of that worth doing, are there any decent suggestions from people who tow with a p38

The vehicle is designed to pull 3.5 metric tonnes. No mods are needed. Removing the breather pipe has to be a joke. Who gave you the advice one of the lads in the pub?

Has fan assisted cooler and no front fogs
So nothing to do. Mine coped in unusually hot temperatures in the Pennines (23C) with 1.5 tonnes of caravan with no problem at all.
Might be worth doing the aircon fans mod as a back up to the viscous engine cooling fan.
Remember to use the gear lever, locking it in 3rd or 2nd on a long speed restricted climb keeps the torque convertor locked so producing much less heat in the gearbox oil.

ohhh now youve gone an done it aint ya tony! fan envy! i want a fan now :) esp towing our tourer 1450kg and 4up and everything but the kitchen sink in the boot! sounds like a good mod for my 98' that, time to look on tinternet..
Try Emmotts our sponsor for the fan but you will have to do your own thing with a temperature sensor and relay to drive it I think.:)

I would have thought no need to do anything. I have towed well over 2 tonne loads frequently, for long distances including long inclines, no issues.

Mine is a manual though.

Listen to Wammers.

Cheers

Jerry
