Hello

Okay, the new DM clutch is in and I need to fit a tow bar. My TD4 never had one fitted.

I sourced a used genuine LR tow bar with OEM fasteners and was about to fit it. I read the fitting instructions posted in the forum from 2008.

I see in step 6 on page 3 there are 2 spacer plates, per the attached screenshot. They weren`t supplied to me.

Are these metal plates or some other material? And what thickness are they? Are they ALWAYS fitted? If so, does anyone know their size please? I imagine I am going to have to make something but don`t want to damage the car structure with an ill-fitted tow bar.

Help appreciated, thanks in advance.

From memory, they are metal plates, which take up a gap between the fitted position of the tow bar and the rear box section. The easiest thing to do is fit the bar using the side chassis rail fixings, then measure the gap between the bar and the rear box section. You can then use some thick square washers (used for DIY projects) to make up spacers of a suitable thickness.

Makes perfect sense, thank you. I appreciate it.

I've also had one with it welded on, and one with separate spacers.
Thanks, mine must be an early genuine LR example, it looks exactly like the assembly notes that show the spacers. Strange though that I couldn’t find it on the classic landrover site. All in all, your idea and my thinking about making spacers up is the way forwards.
