Just wondered, will a P38 torque converter fit a D2? (Td5) just a thought, as i know they have the same gearbox.
if you fit another t/c of any flavour, measure its stand out from rear off engine and depth fitted into bell housing before securing to engine and fitting box

I'm not fitting it. I'm looking for a good 2nd hand/recon unit for the mechanic who is. D2 t/c's are like rocking horse shìt. What i was asking, is would a P38 t/c fit, or is the welded bracket/flange that the flex plate bolts to, different?

Can you not buy them new? or if second hand , how do you know they are good?

Cheers
You can but they are silly money. Ashcrofts do an exchange recon for £175 which isnt bad. However, if the welded plate is cracked (which mine is!) There is an extra surcharge of.... £175! Apparently, they dont often have a problem, it just seems like i've been unlucky.... again....

Oh i would love to but thats £315 + £125 + £350 fitting and a stage 2 remap to be able to use the power from the HD t/c which i believe is £250 (i have an allisport intercooler i can take off my other knacked D2). Add some VAT into the mix and i'm looking at well over £1000 for that lot!
and a box that suffer any extra torque going through it

ouch , apologies didn't realise that lot was in top

Apparently the box is the same as the V8 but the power delivery is smoother and more efficient so less strain on the gearbox. Or so i've read...
they are all the same box whether hp twenty two or four but diesel is harsher ,in std form the box stands a better chance of a longer life, any mod is an attempt to get or use more power quicker

Ive seen them, its not the flex plate, its the welded bracket on the torque converter that it bolts to. And having had to drive 270 miles after it cracked, i'm guessing the t/c is not in the best of health lol! Also the gearbox itself is only about 35,000 miles old having been fitted brand new by land rover. Just a good nick 2nd hand t/c is what i'm after.

that's a shame ref the t/ c bracket not being the right one

No-one has actually answered my original question. Ok, let me try this- is the flex plate on a BMW powered 2.5 diesel P38 the same part and/or part number as a discovery Td5?

no they arent the same plate td5 is three hole rr four

Not sure that is correct. Or this ebay seller is mis-selling-
