there is a code stamped on the side wall of the tyre which gives the month and year of tyre manufacture. personally I wouldn't have a tyre on my car any more than 3 years old

Spare didn't need to be legal anyway, wife's spare is original but others not sure and my camper has 6 wheels two OK others to be checked

I did hear that tyres over five or six years old cannot be retailed any longer, but not heard anything about MOT.

+1.the big boy car/tyre dealers are after your dosh again imo.im lead to believe mot is focusing more to electrical side of things inc tps electronic h/brake etc etc.i hear this story every year tbh.obviously safefty is the main concern and if your daft enough to run defective tyres good luck, ive seen factory fit top premium brands cracking on 12 month old cars:eek:if the 6 yr tyre date gets enforced im good & will go with the flow as safety outrules everthing + I will earn more money:D:D

The spare does have to be legal, but there's no legal requirement to have a spare

The spare wheel is not inspected on the MOT test and does not have to be legal. However if it is seen and regarded as below legal limits advise can be given. But the vehicle cannot be failed.
