I need to change the sill channel on my Defender 90 and wondered if anyone that has done it has any tips before I start. This is due to corrosion so obviously it is not going to just unscrew!

I have the replacement channel, the rear bracket to the tub and the front plate with two fixed screws.

Al help and advice welcome. Also any photos if anyone has them.

Thanks in advance.

I replaced both of mine earlier this year, bought complete kits from the ever helpful YRM https://yrmit.co.uk/product-category/land-rover-defender-90/sills/ it's worth buying complete fixing kits and seals at the same time; do the job properly first time.

Re' rusty bolts...soak in with plusgas for a few days and I needed to use mapgas to release the two front bolts/bottom of A-pillars...they're not always easy to remove...and replace with new bolts. Chances are bottom of A-pillars will be full of crud. I steam cleaned mine out together with whole underside area [this as was refurb'ing the whole underside and chassis of 90], zinc acid primed and repainted under body area above sills, same with A-pillars then left to dry. Then a good coating of Bilt Hamber Dynax, especially high up into the A-pillars. Installed sills making sure to use a good coating of copperslip on all bolst/nuts; job done:)

eta: you'll need a good sized punch and light lump hammer to ease out the main A-pillar bolts if they're a little stubborn + buy some good sized thick st/st penny washers to pull up the new main bolts when refitting....

The two next to each other. It took me a while to get out, it is 27 years old, and some screws needed drilling out. The new part is in but it needs tightening and aligning. The situation was not helped by it having side steps which made getting the ali sills off a bit difficult.

I used all stainless steel bolts on mine.
Deffo use them on the ones holding the floor plates on as you'll likely need to get the plates off when your gearbox/clutch/ difflock mechanism/ switch plays up.
I used button head (domed) ones for a smooooth finish:cool::D
