Does anyone know, or know where I can find, the timing marks for the 1.8 k-series petrol. Specifically the marks on the fan belt pully as this is obscuring the marks on the cambelt pully on the crank.

mark on crank pulley should point straight (12 o'clock) to a mark on timing cover. on the cams, the inlet cam "in" mark should point to the exhaust cam "ex" mark and a tool to lock the two pullies together should be used, make sure you have the cam pullies on the right way, they can be fitted to either cam but only one way round, on the inlet cam, make sure you have the "in" hole on the roll pin and on the exhaust cam, make sure you have the "ex" hole on the roll pin, if you get them wrong, you wont bend valves, it just wont start

Many thanks for this. I was actually wondering if there was a mark on the fan belt pully as the mark on the crank pulley is obscured by the fan belt pully.

yes there is, i meant fan belt pulley, us in the trade call it a crank pulley, if you take of the little side engine shield, take off the wheel and get your head in there and look at it straight on, you can see the mark and line it up. make sure you line it up at the 12 o'clock position NOT the TDC mark, these engines time in the safe position and not on TDC, if you put the crank at TDC you'll bend valves
