timing help needed

I am currently living the land rover dream and having a few rather large teething problems!

I have a 1989 defender thats had a 300tdi put in which i believe to be the early one.

My latest problem is my cambelt has snapped bending the push rods and snapping the rocker shaft.

I have taking it apart bought all the bits i need and have gone to remove the bolt to line the flywheel up and the bolt is completly seized in. I have tried everything and nothing is working and now its gone from a 13mm to bout 11mm and it still is not even considering to move!

So before i set the thing on fire out of pure frustration or call my mate round to try and weld a nut on it i was wondering if there is another way i can get it in the correct position. i know you have the arrow but with 2 turns to every 1 of the others i wanna make sure im on the right one.

Would be VERY grateful for any help. i have searched other threads but cant seem to find anything

on the crank sprocket itself is a mark which aligns with a corresponding one on the case at 12 oclock

thanks i might be being a bit dumb here as im new to the whole landrover seen but when it snapped would it not have thrown all the sprokets out.
I have already taken the original sprockets of as i had to fit the new type ones which is why it failed so im now worried the crank is not on the right rotation to match the cam and ill break something else. Is the 1st piston meant to be at tdc and is there anyway i can tell this?

if you have the belt on then you might have to turn the crank twie to get am in the correct position, with belt off just turn crank to tdc dot on pulley aligned with mark (12oclock),cam to its mark and pump with pin or 9.5 drill bit fully in slot ,then fit belt tight between cam and crank and any slack between crank and pump, ensure pump pulley is correct so that it is fitted with slots in pulley in the middleish to allow you to advance pump if necessary,once done turn engine twice clockwise and recheck tension and marks,pump can then be advanced by slackening the 3 bolts on pump pulley fitting pin and turning centre pump nut clockwise against pin then retightening bolts ,this cab e done with decreasing drill bit sizes to get engine to run just before knock ,optimum

i think i have the crank pulley ok now but iv put it together and started it up and it sounds very flat when you rev it and doesnt pick up as quick as it used to i dont think so i quickly turned it off i assume im a tooth out somewhere?
