timing a gm zz383

I have just bought a brand new flamethrower distributor with vac
advance and a blaster 2 ingnition coil and I am having a very hard time
getting it tuned and timed correctly. the distributor came with three
different sets of springs and some other misc. stuff. what I would like
to know is what is the best combo of springs and whatnot that would be
best for me. my motor is a GM ZZ383 crate motor from jegs.....Any help??

Use the middle springs, perhaps...

A Small Block likes about 38 degrees of total advance by about 3800
RPM or so for best power and about 8 to 10 degrees of static advance
with 89 octane or better gas. If you are set on using 87 you will have
to run about 2 BTC static or so and limit advance to about 30 degrees
total (you will loose a lot of performence too) As far as which
springs, if you plan to use 93 octane, use the weakest springs and if
you want to use 87 use the strongest springs and use the middle ones
for 89.
