Hi All,

Hope life is treating everyone well and all staying safe (whatever safe maybe)........

After 12 great years of owning my TD5 its potentially time for someone else to enjoy it more than I am however hearing some horror stories about the hassle's some have experienced whilst trying to sell

Tricks i need to be wary of.........?

etc....
No cleared payment no car,
No unaccompanied test drives or without proof of insurance.
No meets in a car park in middle of nowhere (keep your minds on track!!!)

I have read of our eurpoean cousins coming to view your can en masse, and whilst you are down one one with one fella, the other/s is/are tipping a little used oil into the coolant header tank then they try and beat you down on price claiming head gasket issue.
I have even seen a couple of vids of the guys doing the dirty deed.

Like a couple of plumber mates once told me, when people ring up for a quote and they aint english start making excuses as you just know its going to be hassle, best price, want discount etc etc!

Going to be a bad time to sell as well, but I reckon it may get worse.

Stick pic up, you never know lz member might want it?

OP has been a member 12 years and we have folk on here looking for a safe environment to purchase/sell. Shirley even with the missing 22 posts (of which could be made in 'Word Association') there is an angle here and there was no initial intent to sell on LZ. Besides, if I'd been lurking fo a 90 TD5 I'd be PM'ing this chap/chapess right now.

...just my two penneth ;)

Rules is rules.
If you choose to circumvent them that is a matter for you …. and the powers that be.
 
The 50 post rule exists to try and protect members from scams that plague both buyers and sellers.

Without it posting a vehicle for sale here would be no different than the open market. It's far from perfect but it's what we have.

The OP has asked for advice about how to protect themselves from being ripped off. Let's keep this on topic.

The market for used Defenders is still healthy up here in the Peak District.

You could try selling it to a specialist Land Rover dealer. My local one offered me £500 more than l paid last year for our TD5 90 XS.

Although l’ve spent quite a bit on it since we bought it.

lf selling privately though, how about getting a friend to join you when potential buyers are coming to view it? (This is allowed under the current crisis as long as you distance)

I‘ve sold two Defenders on Ebay and had no issues at all.
 
If you are completely honest about the vehicle you'll find genuine buyers will ask relevant and pertinent questions.
 
Hi All,

Thanks for all your feedback...., I'm going to pop and advert in one of the landrover mags and see what interest i get as its not desperate sale. Being honest I still enjoy jumping in and having a little wander around to keep the thing turning over....

My biggest concern using the mainstream Autotrader / Ebay the chances of getting some shall we say less than interested in paying for it turn up to have a look around before returning to borrow it if you get my drift....
