Thinking of replacing the mechanical lift pump with a 'facet' pump?

The lift pump went on my hs2.8 a while back, and, due to the injector lines, a standard delphi wont (physically) fit. So, either custom injectors lines, or a £70 job from M&D every time it brakes!

Im now getting irritated by the pump on the defender too, so im looking at facet pumps.

There's a number of different ones, so im wondering which would be most compatible with the pressure / flow from the stock setup?

If i go down this path, ill just plate over the side of the engine, where the pump would have been, and install the facet pump near the fuel tank (they 'push' better than they 'pull')
 
What engine are you running? I've used a Red Top facet for years, 3.5 V8 and 4 barrel Edelbrock carb, no problems with flow or pressure, can be a noisy bugger so be sure to get some rubber "cotton reels" for mounting. I had mine high and pulling for ages, now got it lower and it's more of a push, on a rear tank defender it's hard to get it mounted lower than the tank and out of harms way. Hope this helps,
 
a lift pump runs at about 6 psi and flow isnt that great if your doing 30mpg, top one with 8psi would look ok but they all do apart from bottom one which id think has too high a pressure
 
I wouldn't give too much thought to push/pull or height, my experience is that they work well where ever you fit them.
The one on my 200 110 is fitted to the floor of the box under the drivers seat.
No where near the tank and about level with the top of it!
Take note of the rubber mounting suggestion though, they make a din.
 
my 200tdi D1 has lost some power so was thinking about similar yesterday, got a few s/h facet pumps in the garage, silver & red top versions as left-overs from rallycars, also iirc diesel rrc had bendix / facet 'silver' top type pumps as lift pumps - maybe as part of conversions???

thinking of using the fuel-stop solenoid's activation wire to trigger a relay that would power the stop solenoid & new lift pump??

was raining again today so I didnt get motivated at all o_O

When these pumps aren't powered can fuel still flow through them (i.e. can the FIP still draw fuel) or do they act as a fuel shut off valve? Could be an extra security measure if they do and you have a hidden switch for its power supply

They work with a piston traveling up a cylinder (powered by an electromagnetic thimaggybobwhatsit!) piston has a 'one-way' valve at top (closed on way up) , cylinder has a 'one-way' valve at bottom / entry.
Sorta suck-push action :p

Think the blue / red / silver top pumps are same except the Pistons 'return Spring' & the size of the ports (1/8" lower & 1/4" higher, also output threads are either napt or bsp?? If there's really any worrysome difference ) to give pressure & flow...

Can syphon through from outlet side so possi to use as a 'back-up' but not as an engine-kill :confused:

Shouldn't be an issue if connected but not powered, also they have a coarse mesh filter in the bottom / entry & are 'pushers' but will work as 'pullers' Iirc.

& noisy if solid mounted but in a rallycar OR next to a Landy engine you'll never notice :p
