Hi All

I looking for a bit of advice, I’m thinking of buying a freelander and have decided to go for either the V6 or diesel but would like to know from the people (you Guys) that drive the thing every day what you consider to be my best choice? I have nothing against the K series 1.8 it’s a good lump I had a MG ZT with the same engine but found it under powered for a car of that size with no torque. So I looked at the V6 and was then advised the diesel is the better option. I don’t tow and don’t do that many mile as I’m a pub landlord the car is only used around 3 to 4 time a week so economy isn’t a big factor. What I do want is to be able to feel some power when I put my foot down although I’m no boy racer . I defiantly want a 5 door with a high speci thinking of a budget of around 7 to 8K.

Are there any major issues I need to lookout for? Which is the highest spec model available? And just any general advice would be much appreciated. I have used these user forums for my last 2 motors (MG ZT and Ford Galaxy) and find the best advice always comes form them.

Thanks in advance

I had a 98 Diesel and a 2000 V6 - both for 2 years and 60k miles.
Both suffered numerous problems, so make sure you get a good warranty.
The V6 was more fun, but I only averaged 19 mpg and it's problems were major - 2 engines, 1 gearbox, intermittent loss of power.
The TD4 is reputedly much better than the early diesel, so my advice would be to get one of them.
You can probably pick up a V6 cheaply though - I only got £6k part-ex for mine!

Hi sparky. . .go for the td4 and like mondo say's auto box is nice ta drive, i thrash mine on/off road, fantastic on long motorway drives good mpg, regular common sence maintenance, a good motor, the v6 and 1.8's have their issues but there are loads that dont have problems ,on sites like this ya hear all the sobs, but thats why a lot come here for help or advice, silly hat man is ever so negative [his mum ran orft wiv a freelander man] but he still gives help and advice, so i am slightly biased as i love all the lr motors,so its best ta do yer home work, best oh luck. . . .:)
