Thinking about swapping my 90 for a 110

Been thinking about this for the past 4 or so months. I love my 90 and its getting very close to how I want it, with any luck I'll have it finished by the end of the year which is a nice thought after 4 years of work!

Though for practicality it isnt exactly the best, if I have 4 in the Landy then I have to use a roof rack for the majority of stuff I need to transport which isnt ideal but also not much of a hassle. Plus in the not too distant future there will be family coming along and a 90 probably wont cut it, I'd either have to get a ****y hatchback or swap it for a 110.

Ideally I'd like to get a late model TD5 110 double cab pick up, love the look of them. Only thing that puts me off is putting another few years of work into it to get it how I want it. I have noticed pretty big price differences as well, TD5 90 was going for £15k on ebay and a similar spec/age 110 DCPU was going for £11k. Are they less desirable than the 90s?

I guess what are main differences between the 90 and 110 apart from the blindingly obvious? More just thinking out loud hoping folk will come along and help me think!
 
I dunno if the 90 is worth more, sometimes they are, sometimes not, also depends on what the 110 double cab has been used for in the past, some of the ones I looked at before I bought my black one, had been worked pretty hard, I also struggled to find double cabs to view last year.

Seems they come u for sale, and if they are clean and looked after they are gone in days, since that Spectre movie, shiny black ones sell even quicker, heh

tdci Defenders are cheaper than late Td5's in some cases, somewhere recently on interweb land a dealer was advertising a Keswick green 110 d/c 08 plate for £15999, thats £999 more than I paid for mine last year, I'm not a fan of the tdci Pumas, apart from the better heater controls and the nice feeling "snick" ZF gearbox, which unfortunately seems not to be up to the job.

I love my 90 dearly, and don't want to get rid of it now I've added the kind of accessories I want. But if I had my time over again I'd think seriously about getting a 110 instead. There's not that much room in a 90 if you have to transport people or luggage about, which happens to us all sooner or later. Even the roofrack space is a bit short if you've got lengths of wood or pieces of pipe to move about.
 
Pretty much how i feel. I do not want a Puma, for one I hate the bulge, secondly not fond of the engine or the lack of vents!

Thing is ideally I would like to buy the 110 and take all the good bits off my 90 and fit them, then sell the 90 as a pretty much standard apart from the cage/map
 
Or just buy a 110 double cab that had lots done to it, by a anal retentive owner that replaces parts even if they are not needing it. They are out there, never cheap initially, but works out cheaper in the long run.

Not surprised, I have driven a TDCI Defender then a few minutes later a TD5 Discovery

The Discovery was more lively, smoother, sounded nicer, just a much nicer engine.
 
None of this is helping lol. Still totally undecided! What makes it all a tad more difficult is I would like to buy the 110 before I sold the 90 and take most the bits off it, essentially turning my 90 back to near standard just with a remap, large intercooler and a nicer interior.

Big plus though is in the past 3 years I have learnt a staggering amount of information about Landys, TD5s in particular and cars in general. So any issues that arise with the potential 110 I should be able to solve myself without a garage, which is a nice thought.
 
I'd sell it with all the gear, easier to sell that way, then start again, or like I said buy one that's already been done to a high standard.
 
I can't speak specifically about swapping a 90 to 110. But I have a series 2 109 and a defender 90 both have a 200tdi.
The 109 is far more useable than the series. It can carry more stuff/people. Smoother at speed, the 90 is very bouncy and choppy, when towing the 109 is a lot more stable. Then there's simple things you wouldn't think would be a problem when owning a Land Rover but even most recently picking up a Christmas tree much easier lobbing in the back and it's like it's not there. I once bought 20 Land Rover wheels off of eBay all fitted nicely in the back. A short wheelbase Land Rover would have needed a trailer. For my uses the 109 never fails to keep up with the 90 offroad infact at times it's been better.
I know it's not a 110 but very similar. I would never own a short Land Rover unless it was just an offroad toy or I didn't have the parking space. Just find the longer ones far superior.
 
I went for a 110 mainly so it served as many purposes as possible, tho mine is a toy. The size has been invaluable over the last few years ferrying the wife's purchases and serving her projects. Even brought trees home from the local garden center on more than one occasion.
 
I love my 90 but should have bought a 110. Parking was an issue but with hindisght that's a small matter compared to other practicalities. I'm often not able to fit stuff in the 90, which kind of defeats the purposes I bought it for!
Generally, I would say 90s are more desirable than 110s and do seem to reach better prices.

I suppose I should try and find out what mines worth so I can attempt to make an informed decision!

Bad points -
Minor leak from PAS - Have to top it up a drop every 6 months or so

Whole host of new parts fitted last year all either genuine or same quality. Drives very smoothly, bundles of power, obviously been off roaded but always looked after. Pretty sure thats everything. Any ideas what its worth? Looking on ebay for similar spec ones they seem to go for £13 - £14K+

I'm sure you can see why I would like to take some of the nicer parts off my 90, ideally I want the uprated Ashcroft box but that seems like a pain to do!
