Hi All. I have been reading previous posts regarding the fix for putting a remote thermostat in the Radiator Hose. There seems to be some uncertainty regarding this for an automatic. Has anyone done the fix for an automatic. I don,t want to strip it all down to find that it wont fit into the smaller hose which I believe the auto has. Thanks

It's possible, although not easy, as the top hose is much smaller on the auto.

I too can confirm it's possible on the auto. It takes patience and persverence to get the stat in the auto hose, and I have a scar from it, but once the stat is part way in you're on the home straight.
 
I got it changed the normal way after talking to a friend who has a LR dealership. He said you never know what they calculate behind all that so I followed his advice and got also the water pump changed with it. Unfortunately the 'great' garage didn't use the supplied thermostat, but used one they bought, therefore have one here for a tenner plus shipping if you decide for that route and want it. Would just need some o-ring on top I think.
 
Thanks for the offer MBROKOF , but I have now fitted the "fix". Just as a heads up - Its best to take the inlet manifold off - quite an easy job and it makes access very easy on the auto. After carefully dremmeling the clip off and removing the hose from the block, I disconnected the other end of the hose so I could take it in my shed get better purchase on it. Also the thermo is a very tight fit in the hose, and I found that plenty of washing up liquid and using the end of a "hoover" crevice tool to push it in so that I didnt touch the wax capsule made it a lot easier. Now I have a quick warm up, the temp gauge reaches normal after a mile, and other running problems seem to have disappeared. Hurrah !!

It’s not even cold up here yet so a timely fix well done
