Hi,

I need some help. I own a freelander 1800 pertol hardtop. 1999. 130.000 kms on the clock.

This morning the orange jeep warning light came on in and remains on during driving in the warning panel.

The Freebee seems to be still running ok.

I tested and depressed the decent button on the gearlever to see if the freebee would switch in to down hill mode....i.e. no green jeep warning light and no reaction from the decent mode.

Can someone help to explain what is wrong and what its going to take top reset this problem.

thanks......I hope the dealer dosnt have his tongue in cheek when I eventualy get there!

I have also gone through the threads but non of them hit the the same nail on the head when it comes to the problem I have explained.....I been there and done the two wire soldering bit.....

The orange HDC light according to the manual - and mine is french - says something about breaks overheating!?....

Now there must be some-one out there who has experienced a similar problem.

Once again - the orange HDC light remains on. When I engage the HDC mode on the gearshift column the green HDC light does not come on and the HDC mode does not engage.

I use the HDC a lot.....you would not beleive the gradients and terraine in which I live and surround me and I use each day......

Anyone out there with some technical that can help please?

If you lift the plastic moulding around the hand brake and gear stick, you will find the wires that lead to the HDV switch on the gearknob.

Check that they have not become disconnected from the switch. This would explain the amber warning light and the lack of HDC.

check the ruluctor plates [this is were the wheel rotation detection takes place] youve got one for each wheel to give a signal ,like a common fault as an eg branch or leaves trapped inside[worth a look]. . .:)

Will check the HDV switch again... thanks for the tip.

Ming - never heard of reluctor plates!...Will check and read into that in the Haynes manual.....

No time to do all this, as this weekend off to Luxembourg for a rally......

Let you know if I solved the problem next week

Any more advice very welcome.

Well relucter plates is a stupid earth name,its really bits of metal that give the signal to the detector[using hall effect] got one on each wheel,but its not your problem,as it was the loose wires. . . .:)
