Hello,
As opposed to fitting a new engine to cure my oil leak and power loss problem I am going to strip my 2.5 N/A down over Summer and learn a bit more about how my car works. I am hoping to remove each piston from each cylinder, check the bores and then fit new pistons where necessary with new piston rings all round. I am also going to fit a new timing belt and new gaskets all round.
Before I start planning and budgeting for this "project" I would like to ask a few questions just to make sure that I am going about it in the right kind of way.
1) After removing the cylinder head, do I only need to undo the two bolts that hold the con rod onto the crank shaft in order to knock the pistons up and out of the cylinder block?
2) Is there anything such as play / movement in any of the piston components that I should be looking for in order to replace?
3) Is there only one size piston for my engine or do I have to be careful which size I go and buy? I do not plan on a rebore - just honing at most.
4) How do I know which size piston rings I will need in order to fit to my pistons?
Also, does any body know of a web site where I can buy four new pistons complete with rings that I can just drop in to replace my existing pistons?
Thanks in advance for any help. I'm quite looking forward to doing it, but I really want to know that once I get started, I'll be able to finish!
