The little plastic screw fixings for front doors

What are they called and where can I get the little plastic screw fixings for front doors, that hold the inner door and other parts on to the main door?

I'm fitting new doors and will probably break or loose some of the 26 year old plastic bits if I try to remove them.

Some of the clips are integral to the door card and they are very brittle. There’s a trick I’ve used where you replace the plastic button with a small screw and the head of the screw is where you clip the new fastener into. (There’s a YouTube clip of the English guy who fixes Defenders in Canada showing what you do.)

I've gone that. You need self tapper screws that have a rim around the head. A sort of in built washer on a screw. Can't remember their name, but they are easy to get off eBay.
Beware buying the black plastic clips. There are two sizes and the look the same in pictures. You'll want the smaller size. Well, mine had the smaller size which I discovered after buying the slightly larger ones :rolleyes:

The only self tapper with an integrated washer is a zippy.
 
Washer was probably over describing them, Mick.
Found them! Flange head self tapping screws.

Those are a bit big, what you need are the screws that hold the back on to LG TV sets.

They have a flat top exactly the same size as the plastic heads on the door card, and are actually a short 2mm diameter bolt so the thread is much finer and they work perfectly.
 
I used some tiny countersunk self tappers that I bought from Screwfix. They worked very well. If I get a moment, I'll look for the packet/box in the workshop. I didn't have a dremmel to file the broken plastic in the door card flat so I carved the excess off with a very sharp chisel before drilling holes for the screws to go in. There's a knack of getting the screw in deep enough for the card not to rattle, but not so deep that the floating clip won't snap on over the screw head.

Don’t know if it’s any help , but does the pic show the screws req, if so should be able to get the. part number and size

Not the ones I'm referring to. The screws replace little plastic bits that are part of the door card.

Here's the video that inspired me to mend mine the same way.

 
Those are they. The black 'Christmas tree ones' clip over bits of plastic in the door card that go brittle and break off. The video I quoted above shows how to use some small screws to fix the problem. It worked a treat for me.

That's just a random picture, so there's no way of knowing the size. Can't remember the size I used, but they worked perfectly too. Someone put a thread on here about it and included the screw size and pilot hole drill size. That's what I copied and it worked a treat.
 
These are the screws I used and some photos showing how they fit the Christmas tree clips perfectly. Sorry to multiple post but I’m on my phone and was getting confused with the tabs.

I can’t remember the drill size I used to drill pilot holes. Just be sensible is my advice. (And put some tape round the drill to show how deep you’re drilling so you don’t go all the way through the door card.)
 
Thanks Guys for all the info. I had the new and old doors side by side today. Those little black clips are the ones I need and the white locators that they go into.

Corse, Now I've run out of time for a few weeks to fit everything together. Next weekend is ear marked for replacing the power steering pump that seized on Friday.
