The wife worked hard over the christmas to get us a new motor.
Well she spotted an X5 and that was it. Leather ,silent, smooth, sporty, no faults, new tyres, new brakes, full service history, unmarked, looked after.
FULLY LOADED. I can go on but it ticked all the boxes. Ok 3.0L petrol, but will be gased.
We so wanted a l332 but the cost of bottom price one was at the limit , plus the niggles and problems. Im not saying the X5 is any different in the fault dept and is probably crap off road but we are going to give it a go.
Sorry to say you wont see me that often on here any more. The advise has been a money saver and a wealth of knowledge. I have looked at the X5 forums which dont have a lot of problems on them, or they just take it to a stealer.
Im also sorry to say Im still keeping the fuel guzzling, tracking, noisy, faulty this, hot blowing that, liner slipper, ETC P38 for me, because ive had it for 8 years and it aint going to get me down or beat me at the engineering game.
The reason i wont be on this forum so much is because its so good and ive just about had every fault with it the last 4 years you can get.
I must be mad :lalala:

The L322 and the X5/5 Series/7 Series are pretty much the same car.....just screwed together by a different group of numpties...

They do share similar faults (Electrickery Wise)....

Good Luck with it, and I do hope you're not one of the X5/X6/Chayenne/Q5&7/Lexus/M Class/G Wagon/Slitty/Tourag/et al owners I point to and laugh at for buying a 'pretend' off roader that doesn't have a 65 year pedegree of only producing off road vehicles rather than jumping onto a band wagon in the mid 70's to mid 80's....:D:D:D:D:D

Yep Landrover came up with the idea, but struggled to make it better, just went for the cover up and keep silent mode. Others just came along and put effort into where they were going wrong. If Landrover had a bit more effort 20 years ago it would still be landrover UK not landrover India, or Landrover China as production is moved lock stock and barrrel out of here.
If the P38 lasts me a few years more i will be happy. Now then back to fleebay for another engine i might need if the pinning of the liner goes south !!!

Not many jobs where working hard over Christmas earns enough to buy an X5. The ones I can think of are clustered round Kings Cross.

G~

We have gift shops so its probably the only time some of you ever go out and spend money on the mrs and others. Best time of year for us as the tax man, council and the :Dinternet has fooched it for the rest of the year.
A bit of advise. You think the rangie is high maintenance. You keep playing around with those girls and your undercarriage will need a lot of de rusting , and all sorts of treatments to stop nasty fluid leaks :):)

Good luck with the X5, but remember one thing about LandRovers...

They were built to go anywhere and everywhere, something that they have always done and will always do.

The LR guys may have problems with Electrickery, Engines and Gearboxes (but only cos the foreign owners have foisted them on Land Rover, instead of letting them develop and install their own! Discovery 300TDI and TD5 (home grown and developed engines/gearboxes) vs Discovery 3 is a perfect example), but the Land Rover (any model) is still the BEST 4x4...BY FAR!!!

Good luck with the X5. Is this the BMW model which has different radius tyres front to back?? and Run-Flats? If so, have friend who had one and was not complimentory of it in the wet and snow, different distribution of drive to a RR. Only a thought, could be wrong? Something to watch for after having a Rangie.

X5s do drive nice as road cars, but I couldn't bring myself to spend 1 penny lining the pockets of the company who broke up and asset stripped Rover. I saw an X5 dragging its arse like a dog with worms trying to drive up a snowy kerb last week - gave me a chuckle! :D

Lol at this

I hope you have at least a 2007 model ?
As I think the early x5 is pig ugly ! Lol

And no they don't just share the electrical problems... They are the same car lol

Take the diesel, same engine, same GM gearbox, same stereo and electronics etc...

Didn't know they did a 3.0 litre petrol ? ? ?

Yep used the M54B30 Inline 6 cyliner 3.0 Petrol engine .....

Basically the TD6 and the 4.4 are the same car....difference being the Engine Crank Case is stronger to take the front diff...the Transfer Box is different....the engine is modified to make allowance for the adverse driving angles LR wanted to submit it too.....and few other tweaks....
