I found this site yesterday , after months of persuading my mrs that we should get a 4x4 for towing the caravan she final agreed , and said that she liked the way the FL (gaylander, lol ) looked, and i must admit i thought it wasnt too bad, and not too big to use on a daily basis.
But after a few hours reading all your comments and details of the faults and cost involved, i now think "stuff that" !!
I just wanted to thankyou all , for saving me alot of headaches and cash :D .
Only trouble is now what do i look for lol.
 
You do have to be commited to the cause or at least quite mad to have a FL, but I think they are worth it :D
Good luck finding another car..........what about a Disco? Better for towing a caravan.
 
All cars have problems - it's just we know how to sort ours out!

If you browsed the Defender or Disco forums, you wouldn't touch 'em with a barge pole!

yes i understand all cars have problems, i think its more a matter of the cost involved in sorting some of these problems. I already knew about the k series engine and its hgf, but the model i was intrested in was the td4,and i must admit i was suprised by some of the faults , and that alot of the silly little faults that fl's had on earlier models are still there.
Pitty realy , as i must admit i do like the look of it :(

best soft roader in the market , nuffing is better , the tractors aint bad anorl, we drive em cos we luv em. . . .:p
 
if you go on any forum for any car you will see all the problems they have. no one ever posts saying their motor is running great, if you want a car that dunt break down, get a toyota or a mazda, failing that, taxi's are pretty good as a rule, and you dont have to pay road tax or insurance for em ;)
 
Don't ever think of getting a sporty car and end up on the Seloc (Louts)forum!!! it will scare the living daylights out of you...

seriously tho' - you got more chance of seeing the popes arse in asda than getting a balanced view on any car forum - as the yella fella states, folks generall only come here when they have an issue that needs resolving.

For what its worth, I've had mine for 10 months from new, put 22k on the clock and not had anything major to mention other than premature wearing of the front brake pads which LR replaced for free. Wish I could say the same about my previous car

good point about the forums,they are a place were people come to get help with problems.
i think its time for test drives and alot of hard thinking.

You'll be back asking which FL diesel is best?.........after you've been sadly disappointed by what other soft raoders are out there.

Have to say thought this was going to be a spoof thread at first.

But if you have a BMW judging by your avatar, they can equally have probs. Did you know the dealer can scan your keys and tell you how many times you have revved the car to the redline, max speed, average mph etc. IMPRESSIVE TECHNOLOGY BUT COSTLY

I have always said nothing beats the Hippoo for looks :D- unfortunately most can beat it on Reliability:eek:, Serviceability:confused: and Value for Money:mad:.

The 220Turbo is 200BHP - not 220 as you mentioned (in standard form- see below ;)), however up to 800 bhp has been produced from a T series! Rover T-Series engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

tink. . .ope ya find wot ya lookin for, but the freelander diesels is the best in their class, nuffing can touch em orft road nearly up wiv the big boys [and they are all land rovers]and you can still return 35-38mpg on motoway, however i'm bias ,so have er look at the pretenders and jist like flippy youll be back. . .un best oh luck. . .:)
 
I agree!

I joined to sponge the knowledge from those who have suffered the same problem as myself or those that have found easier ways to adjust tracking, change a wiper motor or even to ask for the best place to get insurance.

The Lotus forum I use has saved me literally thousands of pounds but more importantly if I’ve chosen to carry out a job myself the forum has saved me time and effort.

All of these forums are a fountain of knowledge and advice but its not all free, you have to return the favour and pass on your own experiences, knowledge….Nobody knows everything. If I see a thread in which I can add some humour or ever occasionally some solid advice I’ll be the first to post a reply.

I’ve been a member here for a week now and am very impressed with the quick responses and jovial characters.

A big thank you to Landyzone and to those that share their know how.
