problem finally been diagnosed. There's a toothed ring which engages
when 4wd is selected. The mechanism's worn & this ring isn't disengaging
fully. Garage isn't sure whether or not the entire hub has to be
replaced, or if we can get away with replacing just the worn bits.
Nissan have so far been as much help as a chocolate fireguard.
So, I got in touch with a local Ford dealer to get an idea of cost for
the hub for the Maverick version (think I'm right in thinking they
should be identical?). They tell me that the design was changed in Sept
1995. Guess what? Our Terrano was registered in Oct 1995. Will the
VIN tell me the build date in any more detail than the year of
manufacture, or is it going to be a case of taking things apart &
looking for part numbers?
Any advice greatfully received!
