Hi - looking at replacing our Disco TD5 that’s served us for 13 years as I’m having to do a lot of chassis welding and the original clutch is on the way out.
So looking at the Rr tdv8 3.6. Looks to have a lot of extra performance over a td5 for little money. Turbos are a big problem other that egr delete and oil changes every 6k miles with careful running down and perhaps removal of the dog there doesn’t appear to be much else to preserve these units. Is it possible to fit more reliable turbos, maybe non variable vane with a remap?
I did this with a modern John Deere tractor and removed the egr as the vvt was solid with carbon and the electrically controlled actuator was seized solid. Essentially I removed the weak link.
