Hi everyone

I have used this site twice before, always been well advised and wonder if I could ask for help again please.

I have a 2004 TD6 which is due an Inspection 2 Service. Normally the car is serviced locally but we have taken a summer out to travel through Europe and the car is currently in the Greek Islands. I've found a good, recommended mechanic who will carry out the service for 60 euros.

I've ordered a Britpart service pack from Muddyfeet, consisting Oil, Air, Fuel, Pollen Filters & Washer, (as I looked on the web and these came highly recommended). Please can anyone answer me the following:

1. Firstly, exactly how much oil is required in the service. I've found reports of 8.75ltrs & 9ltrs? I'm concerned 9 may overfill and cause damage?

2. Is there anything else I need to change in terms of parts to complete this service?

I'm home for a couple of days, flying back Monday night, so any help and advice any of you can give before Monday evening would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Dave

Thank you for the advice on oil quantities... sadly, at great cost in April I had a new gearbox fitted by my local main dealer, so I'm guessing the breather system filter would have been changed as part of this.

Please advise me if you think this is not the case.

Thanks again

Dave

Hi everyone

Inspection 2 Service.....for 60 euros.

Dave

Wow, that is very cheap! No wonder the greek economy is going down! Does this mechanic know what is actually involved in a Insp 2 service? If doing it by the book then there are all sorts of things that have to be checked (not necessarily expensive on parts unless something is found to be worn out, but probably fairly time consuming = lots of labour).

Has he got a copy of LR servicing manuals or rave and diagnostic tools?

Thanks for the excellent advice arron beast unleashed. I will order one now although won't be able to bring it back to Corfu until I return in late July. In the meantime, I'll keep an eye on the exhaust for any obvious signs of smoking, by the end of July I should only be about 1200 miles over service interval due point, so hope it will see me through until then.

In response to Voguely, yeah I realise that there's more to an Inspection 2 than just those parts being replaced but I'm in Corfu and although my TD6 has always been serviced by Landrover, being on an Island that doesn't have a main dealer leaves me slightly stuck... Apparently this mechanic I've found is used by many the Brits on the Island and does a good job on a gentlemen's Defender here.

Having gone through an actual Landrover Inspection 2 service tick sheet. (you can see a copy here:
fullfatrr.com Photo Gallery - Workshop Manual Pages/FFRR L322 Service Sheets - )

In total it appears to consist of 42 points. Replacing the parts covered in this thread are what I understand to be the essentials in order to keep a TD6 in good mechanical order. While the rest of the inspection points are of course of some value, (battery & brakes I know are all OK as recently replaced), I think some are less important and many would be picked up on a standard MOT.

In relation to your other thread that I responded to regarding Guava of Guildford, Hunter's were very expensive. Lookers of Battersea are the cheapest I've found for an Inspection 2 if you don't mind a trip down the A3, quoting me £570 back in April this year.

I'm in Corfu
.

Are you based in the north of the island? (Kassiopi) If so then I think I saw you in April when I wa sover there - remember seeing a RR (dark blue if memory serves) with Brit plates on and thinking ''how the hell did that get here, surely he didn't drive?!''. If that was you, then what a small world eh! Can't be too many L322s on brit plates on the island!

Hi Voguely

That was me.... It's actually Black with Ivory, only seen one other Range Rover since April which was a week or so ago and from Austria.... We're thin on the ground here. We have a Villa 10 minutes from Kassiopi and come over from April to September.

The drive down is fantastic, spent 9 days driving down through France and Italy with my wife and our dog, would highly recommend it over the plane if ever you get the time. (Plus you avoid the hell that is Corfu Airport!!)

That said, the lack of Landrover parts and Landrover dealers is a bit of a worry though.

It is a small world isn't it!!

Keep me posted if you find a good dealer in Surrey, as I said £570 is the best price I could squeeze them too at Lookers, let me know if you get better.
