friend of mine asked me to look over her 110 Td5, (2nd vehicle) she lent it to someone and they returned it saying they had to return very slowly as "one of the wishbones was broken" her words.
Had a look under the front to see what the hell she was going on about to be pointed in the direction of the mounting arm for the steering rod if it was LHD, being RHD of course there was nothing there, "and there is a bolt just about to fall out" no that's to limit the amount the wheel will turn to adjust the turning circle and stop the tyre rubbing on bodywork etc.
Jacked the front up, no play on bearings or steering joints, uj's alright. We take it for a test drive, first thing is the Abs and Tc lights remain on, "yes that was the problem, they had to drive carefully in case there was something wrong". Don't worry too much about that at the moment, it's a common fault, lets just take it up the road. Before moving off tried Hi/Low and diff-lock, jammed solid, "Oh I never use that, whats it for", well use it or loose it, don't worry about it.
1st half mile just take it steady getting a feel for whats going on and no problems at all so turn onto main road and give it the beans. Jesus H Christ, this has been chipped, for a 110 it was a bleedin flying machine. So short story long, apart from the 3 amigos lurking in the background nowt wrong with the beast at all, but did it ever go. Wow.
Now decided my 200Tdi 90 performs like a slug over sandpaper.
