10p td5 engine in a discovery 2.
Having running issues with a friend’s td5.
Cut out the other day at 60mph, puff of smoke and then struggled to start it. Ran for 3/4 minutes then died again and had blowby.
Got it recovered back to his and now it will start as long as primed a few times (struggling even then) but lots of white smoke from the exhaust and cuts out after a minute of idling.
Seems like a misfire when revving also. Put a new fuel pump on it today as it didnt seem to be making any noise but no difference
Injector seals were done 150 miles prior to this, backlash set to a full turn (360°) back and then tightened up. However apparently he didn’t properly clean out where it meets the head. I know this probably won’t help but it is a lot of smoke, far more than when they went before changed.
Hoping for some advice before we change the engine next weekend.
