Hi guys
My 2000 TD5 (96k miles) seems to be running very rich. When it's ticking over it absolutely stinks of diesel fumes even after a long journey of over 100 miles. When driving Infront of someone in the dark with their headlights on it's quite embarassing with quite alot of grey smoke. When its first started it chuffs out like an old TDI with a strong unburnt diesel smell, and this stays regardless of the journey length. Smells a right knacker. It seems to be getting through diesel too but I haven't actually properly checked this.
When left for a few days it always sounds like it's running on four cylinders for a few seconds and then clears. Not sure if that's due to cold weather. The glow plug light stays on first thing for about 20 seconds and takes a bit longer to crank.
Few things I've done unrelated to the smoking:
- injector seals (questioning if they need doing again)
-fpr
- full service
- waste gate freed off
- filter housing and valves correctly orientated
- injector loom
- breather separator replaced
- in tank pump cleaned and pressure checked
- EGR blanked
-decat before I bought it.
I'm unaware of any ECU adjustments of any kind. I've also tried forte diesel system cleaner with no luck.
Any ideas please guys.
Thanks alot
