TD5 Service:Engine oil, brake fluid

Hi folks. Just bought a drum of Millers oils XSS 5w30 for my TD5 Defender, in prep for an oil change.

However, as I'll be having the performance on my TD5 upped (again!) soon, a la IRB developments/Bell Autos, when I came across this on difflocks forum

" However, if you have any performance enhancements fitted (superchips, bigger intercooler etc) then you need an oil with a higher upper viscosity and a fully synthetic formulation to cope with the higher temperatures and stresses encountered in boosted engines.

Therefore, for performance enhanced TD5s, you should opt for a fully synthetic oil of 5W40 viscosity and ACEA grade A3/B3 and B4. From our range the perfect lube would be our 5W40 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil and will ensure that those higher running temperatures and stresses don't lead to accelerated wear."

Now, the drum is still sealed and the factory is only a few miles away. Shall I take it back and get some 5W40 from somewhere?

Oh, and as I'm doing a 48K service on it, Im doing the axle and brake fluid.

Any reccomendations for the Brake fluid?

• MOTUL DOT 4 BRAKE FLUID 100% synthetic fluid for hydraulic actuated-brake and clutch systems DOT 4

Thanks for your help. Only changed the oil before. Don't want to muck owt up and get it done sooner rather than later.

Use the oil you have bought .. It will be just fine.

Those synthetic oils are NOT better lubricants, but they do last up to twice as long.

However they cost four times as much.

Use ordinary oils and change them on schedule. Changing the oil physically removes all the nasty crap that's in the oil.
