TD5 needs new ECU?

Hi All,

Found out this weekend that a friend's TD5 has been sat idle for ages as his local garage in spain have charged him the best part of a grand and still not fixed it: they think its the ECU but not sure??

It basically will not start, the light is on for the alarm, so that has not been bypassed, and the recent work undergone by a local garage was:

Change fuel pump and filter
change injector pump and check all cables
Change crankshaft pulse / position sensor
clean and inspect all injectors

Any thoughts? is it worth a punt on a new ECU? may as well get a remapped one while at it /???

TD5 does not have a separate injector pump, (Unless they mean the actual injectors which are coded to each cylinder so dont mix them up)
The in tank fuel pump supplies the fuel to the injectors via the filter and fuel pressure regulator, there is a fuel cooler for return fuel to tank.3 Check the relays are all ok under the drivers seat, if pump runs check for air leaks or fuel leaks at filter and fuel pressure regulator, check for oil in the red ecu plug from injector harness.

When my fuel pump packed up it caused problems within the ECU, had to have a new unit. The garage had a quick fix to drive it a half mile at a time. popped out one of the under seat relays, not sure which one, when it died again, popped it out to reset, got me to the garage in the end. Painful as the new ECU packed up after 15 months. LR wouldn't have it back as past the 12 month guarantee, poor customer service.

I would recommend to change garage first.
The in tank pump can be checked by putting a pressure gauge into the fuel temp sensor hole in the pressure regulator.
There are companies in the UK who will check and repair ECUs.
What would really help would be to get it plugged into an analyser like Nanocom, just changing parts to see if you can get lucky is expensive and frustrating.
