Morning Guys!
My 1989 90 currently has a discovery 300TDi in it, but due to still having the standard LT77 gearbox, sits a good six inches further back than normal. It has a Disco 300 rad/intercooler sitting in the normal place with all the hosing extended to reach. If I was to move the rad back and put a full width TD5 intercooler in front of the rad, would there be any increase in performance. (if i do boost, fuelling etc)

Also, I have a 300Tdi discovery which is being sold soon and it has a brunel uprated intercooler (standard size), is this likely to be better than the TD5 option or not?

Thanks in advance, Harry

A larger intercooler is always preferable but only if you run increased boost pressure.
The best increase in performance comes from combining the two. From memory the standard TD5 intercooler is not much larger than the one you already have.
I'm not sure if the TD5 intercooler hose connections would be accessible with your radiator as the TD5 radiator has two access crescents in the end tanks to allow the intercooler hoses through.
I have an intercooler that is the size of my radiator and twice as thick fitted to my TD5 as I removed the knackered air-con giving me loads of room to play with. :)
