I recently took the cylinder head off for machine shop as i had a few broken studs in exhaust side so i got them drilled and tapped bigger, and they sorted someone drilling into water gallery previously.

I got head back, i never took out the cam or injectors etc left it all in tack, i put a new head gasket on and headbolts.

Installed head and i had a wee tapping noise at first, it cleared then when i revved up at 2k it would make a sort of tap noise again. after a few stop and start of engine it seemed to be fine but sometimes it would do it. it was absolutely fine before other that blowing manifold. i did the head gasket 1.5 year and got it skimmed, it was a two hole gasket but i realised the new one was a 3 hole.

What could the noises be? Slightly out of time? confession is that i was in a rush and i started it completely forgetting to remove flywheel locking pin. It snapped off the end and i got it out of the drain plug just after. Very bad mistake i know but not sure if it’s out of time now or what. Any ideas?

As i said injectors were never removed so not touched the backlash on them etc, i made sure the cam was still at TDC when installed and had the chain and sprocket zip tied.

Thanks
