hi guys
I have just finished replacing my gearbox and transfer box on my td5 110 , everything appears to be OK mechanically but I have a strange electrical fault.
The engine starts and runs OK but when running the nearside rear light and indicator are illuminated with the left turn signal very dimly illuminated on the dash. Along with this the ignition key will not cut the engine with the brakes applied.
I have taken the vehicle for a test drive and all seemed OK apart from the above until I put on the lights then the engine wouldn't rev and struggled under load very similar response to a blocked fuel filter / fuel starvation.
I have read similar posts with the same ignition not turning off engine problem and people have suggested that the lift pump is on the same circuit as brakes and a short would power the lift pump whith the pedal depressed.
Is it possible that turning on the lights is cutting out or reducing the power of the lift pump ?

Any suggestions of where to start looking would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I would start looking for any earths you may have removed and not replaced, or damaged. It isn’t too difficult to identify where a dodgy earth is, use a jump lead connected directly to the battery negative, then start touching the engine, gearbox, transfer box, body panels. Once you touch the part that is at fault, investigate the earths in that area further. Replace the broken earth, or fit a new supplementary earth.

Thanks for the replies,
James was spot on I'd left the two small earths of the drivers side of the t/box.
