Hello there, hope all is well. I have been posting about my problem with a discovery series 2 TD5 year 2000 a few times, I have owned for 25 years now. It started with a shaking engine all of a sudden and it would stop running after a while. We ran a nanocom diagnostic, which was not helpful, . First 3,7 airflow circuit logged high. It appeared to be an old error we think it disappeared. Then trying to start it, it did not, we did get an error 28,1 injector 1 peak charge short but then it disappeared again. My friend here, who owns a British army Defender and who had a TD5 once insists it is probably not an injector, my mechanic insists it must be. We now replaced a clearly leaking fuel pressure regulator, it starts but gives black smoke and the engine starts to shake again after a while. Before this the injector loom was replaced, there was no oil leakage near the red ECU plug, there was water in the fuel filter, when removing that it started and ran normally for a few minutes making me think it is not the injector but now it runs for a short while with black smoke, we replaced the fuel filter and purged it as one should, there was no gunk anywhere. The mechanic does not believe it is any of the sensors or the turbo but one or more of the injectors. He is worried rightly so that doing the injectors without knowing which one is faulty is a no go and it will cost prohibitive amounts of money too. Besides if one needs to be replaced (expensive to buy!) he can not tune/adjust them as is needed. He was suggesting to get them inspected and diagnosed first. The copper washer or o-rings of an injector maybe the problem as one of you said but is this visible by the naked eye that is that? And besides if one injector fails, the engine can still run on 4 I was explained by the same person. In any case I can not do this myself, not capable but is it worth it do so ? The mechanic is reluctant so much is clear and there is no Landrover garage nearby here in France, near Gaillac/Albi. I have been told by some it is worth replacing the MAF/LAT sensor, but others say this may not cause the black smoke, that has not been done yet, but should I do so and replace the other as well, the MAF sensor ? Thank for any clear advice and recommendations other than scrapping the car ! :)

Hi. What do you mean by that:
We ran a nanocom diagnostic, which was not helpful,
Read the codes and that's it? if yes you didnt run a diagnostic at all, you just checked for codes. What about live inputs fuelling recorded data? that's the way to diagnose such thing, did you check at least the live injector balances and all sensor readings at idle? ...if not do that and come back with the results then we'll speak on the subject without guessing things

I do not know if he still has the nanocom he borrowed from my neighbour!
Sadly they are quite a distance apart.:(
