Hi, this is my first time here and would appreciate any help or advice anyone can give me.
I bought my X Reg Freelander TD4 Auto 3 dr last month (50k on the clock) through a private sale. I love the car, it has leather seats, air con and everything! I used to have a J Reg Discovery and this Freelander is real luxery compared to that.
The problem is...
The Freelander kicks out a lot of grey to dark grey/black smoke whenever the engine takes off or I change gear. It gets worse when the engine warms up. There is a pinking sound whenever I put my foot down and make the engine work. There is virtually no pick up at all and the engine seems totally wooden. I seem to spend most of my time in Steptronic mode just to stop the black smoke.
It has been into a local garage who checked the diagnostics and they came up with nothing. I love the car but the lack of power and the black smoke is really spoiling it for me. Please help if you can.
