Hi,

Is there anyone in Leicester or local to Leicester with a hawkeye (or any diagnostics tool for a freelander 1 td4) that would come round to my house and plug it into my freelander please?

Thank you

It won't start, aa came out & tried to get it going, said his diagnostics was unable to communicate with my car, would like to get a non aa opinion

I have a nanocom for my d2, i just spoke to blackbox solutions and they have told me that the nanocom can;t communicate with the freelander 1. this is very disappointing! The nancom is an amazing piece of kit, but it doesn;t work with the freelander 1, for roughly the same price I could of bought a hawkeye which can do ALL landrovers.

It's unlikely that a diagnostic device will tell you why it won't start anyway.
The TD4 is relatively easy to work out what's up.
Non starts are always fuel related. So the first thing is to change the O rings on the high pressure fuel pump regulator. ;)

Is the rear fuel pump not the first place to start, i.e. Is it running (can you here it)?

I also quite agree that diagnostics will probably not help, when mine wouldn't start, the RAC said it was the crack shaft sensor, was in fact the rear fuel pump not working.

I had in my head that it was an early TD4 with 2 lift pumps. But you are correct. Well worth listening for the lift pump/ pumps running for a non start.;)

Thanks .... it's a 2002 td4.

I took the fuel line off the fuel rail and cranked it, fuel came out the pipe.

I will check the fuel pumps, 1 behind rear wheel arch, where's the other 1?

Also, if there's low fuel pressure, wouldn't that come up as a fault code?

doesn't start with easy start.... changed crank shaft sensor, still no joy.

possible causes:

Fuel pump(s)
Fuel pressure regulator
Glow plugs (don;t think it's these)
Injectors (I hope not)
Maybe even the alarm, does seem to be immobolised

The other lift pump is under the bonnet.

Low fuel pressure won't necessarily flag a code.

The high pressure fuel pump regulator O rings is a good and cheap place to start looking. ;)

Sounds to me that it's definitely fuel pump related, if it doesn't start with burst of easy start then there's no diesel getting through.
Fuel pump behind rear wheel is easiest to check, when it's quiet, stand outside drivers door, turn on ignition and go straight to rear wheel and listen,......you probably knew that though, lol.
