My TD4 seems slightly noisier when cold. It sounds like a very slight dielsel rattle and disappears once the engine warms up. Is this normal ?
Car runs fine and there is no lack of power. Im not used to driving a diesel as ive only just got it so its probably just me...

This is normal. All diesels sound noisier when cold - its diesel knock.
The BMW engine is quieter than many when cold, quieter than most others are when hot even!

Fuel quality also makes a difference. Stay clear of Supermarket fuel (especially at present!).

Shell Extra is preferred by this engine and usually gives a few more mpg compared to the dregs sold by Tescos etc .

Thanks Roverron glad to hear its normal that puts my mind at ease. Should you take it easy when cold or is it ok just to drive normally ?

You should take it easy. Let it warm up a bit before giving it a lot of welly on cold mornings.
