Ever since I got my 2003 TD4 Sport, the turbo lets out a growl or a rasping noise when it is working, say when the car changes down on a hill and the turbo comes in again.
At 53k miles, I didn't think it was a turbo bearing, now at 68k it has got neither worse nor better!! Figured if it was a problem it would show itself !
I fixed several oil leaks, one was the turbo return feed. Again, didn't see how this could be a problem. If it was the feed then maybe.
Today, whilst doing another job, I looked to check the turbo oil leak was still good. It is, but I noticed a bolt missing that holds the turbo output hose to the coolant rail at the back of the engine.
Found a suitable bolt and replaced it. Possibly it was left out as I had to put the hose in line to get the bolt in. A bit fiddly.
Anyway, noise has gone now so obvs vibration of the metal duct against the coolant rail bracket.
Wish they were all that easy !
