Hi All,

I had the MOT done recently and also the smoke emissions test. I was wondering if anyone could explain what the values mean resp. where it should be on a hippo with almost 190,000mi. as I have no clue. I went through Google and found bits on the gov Website but no Explanation really, so thought someone here might be able to shed some light in an if the values are ok for future test (provided the engine would remain in the same state) and what it really means.

It seems that from year to year that the plate value goes down from 3.0 > 1.5 > 0.7 and I am wondering how that affects the test. Would it Show also the CO2 emissions as if the car is being taxed by that and not tested it doesn't really makes sense to me.

Here are some values of the RAC Website but how do they correlate to the test:
Euro 3 emissions standards (diesel)
CO: 0.66g/km
HC + NOx: 0.56g/km
NOx: 0.50g/km
PM: 0.05g/km

compared to EURO 6:
Euro 6 emissions standards (diesel)
CO: 0.50g/km
HC + NOx: 0.17g/km
NOx: 0.08g/km
PM: 0.005g/km
PN [#/km]: 6.0x10 ^11/km

  1. Maybe some of you who want could post their test results to get an idea.

Regards
Matthias
