Cheers for your reply mate crankcase breather was replaced about 1000 miles ago so dont think it could be that but worth checking anyway. Will need to get the engine cover off and have a good look tomorrow

I would offer the suggestion that you were putting more demands on the turbo than usual.

You have possibly just blown a turbo hose clamp.

The weak point in my experience is the 90 degree bend one.

The hose doesn't actually come right off, but moves enough to allow the pressure to escape carrying oil with it.

If your not in the habit of towing a caravan or heavy trailer you may have just thought that was how the TD4 behaved when towing.

Was the power down? Did you keep the revs up in 3rd or 4th?

Hopefully all you'll need is to clean and tighten the hoses.

I have a big 2 tonne trailer and that really makes the engine work hard.

yes mate it seemed to be working hard at some points 3200 rpm in 4th at some points going up hills etc. i will also take a look at the hoses mate.

It was the first time towing with the freelander and i think i was expecting it to tow like my old 3.0v6 omega

Good luck.

I have silicon hoses which don't 'stick' on the pipes like the rubber ones tend to - I only fitted one 'T'-Bolt hose clamp - on the egr joint.

The silicones need checking after a few hundred miles too.

Here's a pic of my trailer - very aerodynamic - not!

It's plated at 2 tonne but usually its around 1400kg.

Even empty it's a fair old pull for the Freelander, so usually it's the Sprinter that tows it with no wind resistance problem at all - as the sprinter is the same height.

yea mate that is a bit slab sided is it :) i had a good look today all hoses are fine and i cant seen to find where its coming from. But for some reason its stopped leaking. It looks like it could be atf. It looked a bit wet where the gearbox meets the engine from underneath. Could the gearbox got to hot and some fluid was pushed out the seals ?
