is there a special tool required to remove the td4 oil filter top when replacing the filter or will a socket do the job - if so then what size socket.

is the oil filter on the front of the engine near the dipstick

thanks

Hi Bryan, there is a special tool for taking the top off the oil filter housing, it's 36mm and has a 3/8 square drive, pop into Halfords etc. only a couple of quid. the filter housing is on the front of the engine, the top is black with big hexagonal, undo it and the filter element is inside.

The special tool in question is a 36mm socket and any drive size will do it 3/8 or 1/2 inch.

Nothing special about it really.

I just find the one in the socket set that fits and just do it ,dont even look at wot size it is, earthlings are not that dim surely. . .

There are not many people with a 36mm socket in their toolbox, the one I mention is specially made low profile, for use only on the oil filter hex. If it has a 3/8" drive like mine then thats what you use, if it's 1/2" you use that. No one said there was anything special about it.
