Had to call out the RAC tonight as the TD4 was stalling on full throttle. After checking the vacuum hoses and cleaning the EGR that technician spotted fuel leaking. The top of the engine was swimming in it. He tightened up the injectors by a tiny amount, but could not track the source of the leak anywhere due to how quickly it was reappearing. He thought it might by the injectors but couldn't be sure.

Has anyone experienced this before? Any common cause of a fuel leak in the injector area? I haven't managed to find out much about this on the LR forums.

In the end I managed to make it the 50 miles by acclerating slowly and keeping the engine revs under 2k. Massive amount smoke pouring of the engine and out the back due to the diesel burning away with the engine heat. Thankfully it didn't go on fire.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome sutherland!

well there aint a lot there..
you have the common rail towards the front with S shaped ??? pipes to yer injectors.. then on top of the injectors you have a flexible pipe thats held in by some spring clips. more than likely one of these has come adrift...OR the RAC blokes removed one and lost it down the side of the injector !!!!!!
Have a proper look when its light tmorra Im sure you will be able to see it

Oh and if its one of the ridgid pipes, theyr the high pressure ones so it'll be sprayin out like an hooligan
good luck

Unfortunately I know nothing about common rail diesel engines and therefore could not possibly comment. You could, possibly, pm Clutchdust?

Thanks for the replies. Investigations this morning suggest it's spurting out from the number 2 injector, but the top of the engine fills with diesel rather quickly and then the leak is below the pool of diesel so it's hard to see. The garage are going to strip it down to see if they can find the problem.
