Well the td4 for the last 2 days has been a pain in the ass. 1 Minuet it will start first time the the next it takes 3 to 5 times . Once running there isent a problem but it makes you look stupid like today stuck in the middle of town and wouldent start then all of a sudden started and all was fine . any suggestions from you good folk would be greatly appresiated.

when it wont start does it turn over or is it dead ?

Hi yes it turns over as normal but will not fire then you try again and it goes straight away i did notice yesterday that it started when i went to rev it up it just died.

Cheers dazkim

sounds like it may be fuel pump related, Check you can hear the pump when ignition turned on (Mounted to N/SF inner wing/strut), There are 2 pumps though

May be worth checking when fuel filter last replaced aswell

Right with a little more time on my hands today i had a play and noticed if i try and start it straight away it wont start but if i turn the ignition on and count to 5 then try it starts first time ... im lost with this one.

ok, i think we can eliminate glowplugs as it has done this when the engine is hot .
there is a pressure sensor on the fuel common rail that the emc needs to know that the pressure is correct, before it will even open the injectors,

sounds like this pressure signal might be missing , several causes possible
1, loose connections
2, fuel filter blocked
3, fuel pumps

as shutty said when was last time you changed filter

i agree wiff johnny. . . .but after fuel filter the rear pump in tank is favourite. . . .check fuel pump relay first ,it controls both pumps [front un rear] with ing on ,hold front pump wiff yer hand should vibrate fer bout 12secs then stop [pump prime time out] if it don't do this then check relay and fuse, if it doe's do it ,then come back ,un will take you down down deeper un down [titter]:)
