Hi all, my TD4 currently has 14,500km on the clock and is 7 months old. The engine still feels like it hasn't loosened up as much as I thought it might. I know it is not the smoothest TD engine out there but was wondering if anyone can advise on whether it gets more refined as the miles grow?

I've not much experience of modern non Land Rover engines, but I am surprised that you feel a TD4 isn't smooth, straight out of the box. Have you tried another one?

Driven many TD engines from different marques. I test drove a couple of FR2 TD4's which all seemed pretty smooth. If anything mine is more coarse now than when I left the showroom. It has just had its 12k service with engine flush as well and a new EGR valve which went right on the service interval.

I think you have answered your own question, when you say you have driven other TD4 Freelanders and they are smoother. There is evidently something not right with yours, keep banging away at the dealer, that's what warranties are for.

I agree with Davec, take it back and get it looked at mate while it's still under warranty... .. . :welcome2:

Try to disconnect the MAF and see whether there is a difference (in the positive way of course) if there is, your MAF needs replaced.

I think we are talking about a TD4 (Freelander 2) not Td4 (Freelander 1) a totally different engine, so I'm not sure if the comments about the MAF apply.
In any case at 7 months & 14500 Ks its under warranty, get them to sort it.
