Hi I really want to decat my TD4 but I am not happy about hacking my existing 'valuable' exhaust..........

So I have done a bit of digging ...... now before I get shot down .... here me out..... It looks like the L series exhaust is partially suitable. The pipework is the same size (checked with Rimmers) so my proposal is to
fit the L series rear silencer which has same dim pipework...(but box appears slightly smaller good for ground clearance -although same general shape as TD4) then fit the intermediate pipe and then weld in a section of pipe to take it to manifold ..... I'm not sure of the overall alignment....it can't be that far out ........... the beauty of this little mod, is that it is real cheap, intermediate pipe is £27 and back box is £34. I'm not sure quite how noisey it would be ...... but there a number of tweaked L series with around 125+ bhp ..........

I will give this a try......soon ...... has anybody else tried this????

I have an L-series engine and had fitted a new stainless exhaust without the cat. I just have the rear box. The exhaust note is quite sporty but not unpleasantly loud and the turbo spools up more quickly so the throttle response is better. It isn't an issue for MOT tests in the UK.

Happyhippo,

How much did this cost you all in? I fancy one as my system will need doing soon, but i DONT want any stupid boy racer noises coming from it.. Friends of mine tell me that LONGLIFE exhausts can do a full stainless sytem and you can select the noise you want from 1 - 5 (1=normal 5= young **** in a corsa)
