The inner section of the aircon belt on my 53 TD4 has just shreaded and wrapped itself around the crankshaft pulley. It has been pulled into the shaft and subsequently damaged the front oil seal which is leaking badly. I have removed the pulley but attempts at removing the seal are so far unsuccessful. A ham fisted approach could scratch the shaft and then it would never seal.

Anyone with helpful advice on removing the seal?

I have been tryin to find out wot type of seal it is for yer [aint got ma rave disc as its lent oot] if its a normal oil seal [check furst] then try the old self tapping screw trick. . . .screw it in the rubber and use a bar pry to lever one side out then lever rest out wiff a flat blade screw drive [i know its in a very tight position]. . . . .best oh luck:)

Thanks for tip. It looks like a standard lip seal (reinforced with steel ring). I am a bit concerned about damaging the shaft by using hardened S/T screws but may have to bite the bullet!
