Td4 - Central Locking Please Help!

The central locking on my TD4 as almost completely packed in. I now can't even get the key in the drivers door lock to open manually. The only access is via the tailgate. Alarm system is working normally with the key fob.

All doors (except tailgate) can be locked by using the central locking switch on the centre console, but none of them can be opened by this method (although there is a light clicking noise from the internal fuse box area when I try to do this). The doors can only be opened from inside by pulling on the internal individual door handles, one by one.

Anyone any idea what I should try first? Surely all central locking motors can't have failed at same time? The stupid thing is, some mornings, out of the blue, the doors will all open when the key fob button is pressed!!

Yup earfling. . . .yes too much of a coincidence ,all door solenoids going at same time. . . .but think you've answered your own problem . . . .CHANGE YER RATTLIN RELAY!!!!!!

Thanks Ming,

By any chance do you know the exact location of the relay, I tried pulling each one out in turn in the internal fuse box location, but each time I pressed the central locking switch I could still hear the clicking noise, so could not identify which one was that for the central locking.

Vehicle is 2002 TD4.

Thanks again, by the way went to landrover approved service station this morning (not quite sure if it is actually landrover) and they wanted £65 just to run the diagnostic check before starting any work.

Decided to wait for your replies before taking further action, I am sure a relay is a fraction of that cost, and worth a try anyway!!

Reet earthling. . .ah teld yer er load er bollix [ther ain't no relay] each door solenoid has a confirm switch, these all give a confirm signal to the ccu[central control unit] at back of passengers fuse box [electronic so no noise] however they do make a quite click when energized each switch has a earth return system [makes it more difficult to fault find] so any cable failing to earth will start er chattering [cough] so best way is pull the plug on each door and see which wun sorts it. . . .also the three door uses the roof switch [check that first] and just to make life complicated the system also incorporates the inertia switch and yer rear tailgate. . .all switches are n/o [normally open] when unlocked and n/c [normally closed ]when locked. . . .un dont forget the switch in yer cab[lock/unlock] that can go faulty aswell . . . . .er hope this helps, i can take you deeper if you want ps yer tailgate shuld lock aswell [just a thought
