Hi all,

I have a 2001 TD4 which had developed an intermitant starting fault, it would just turn over, this would happen whether hot or cold. It could start fine for a week then randomly stop starting then be ok again.

Luckily I had come across this forum which helped me "diagnose" the cam sensor. I have changed the sensor today, and so far it's done the trick.

One concern I have is the old sensor was coated in oil. I was under the assumption these sensors don't like oil.

Should the sensor be covered in oil? Or do yo think i have a leaking gasket or seal?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi i had same problem with mine and it was the fuel pump in the engine bay under the battery if it fails to start again check this pump to see if it's running by touching it, with the ignition on of course, not sure where the cam sensor is located so not sure about the oil sorry, good luck!
