The starter motor solenoid on my TD4 auto is on it's way out. Now there is lots of info about replacement contacts and plungers for the Denso motor but mine has a Valeo motor. Does anyone know if I can carry out a similarly effective strip down of the Valeo unit and replace or repair the solenoid? If so, any links to a supplier of the necessary bits would be gratefully appreciated. Google is not giving me much joy!

So, I've managed to get the motor off and it does appear to be the same as the Denso unit. I've emailed the ebay supplier to see if they have repair kits that fit. Fingers crossed. Just as a tip to anyone doing the same job, make sure you get the correct bolt at the rear of the motor, As you can't really see the bolt and need to find it by feel, it's not the 15mm head one in the general area. It's the 13mm bolt just forward of that one. Don't bother trying to get the motor off without the battery box removed (unless you've removed one before and you're a pro). It's so much easier to get in with the box out of the way.

A few pics showing my Valeo branded motor for reference...

I thought they would be the same, I have changed quite a few on the R40 and a couple on the TD4 no need to remove battery box really but I suppose it would give you more room, link below albeit on the R40
