What the feck is that all about - a total pain to fit back in place properly then get the screws to thread back up again. At least I can blame some headcase at BMW for such $hit design:eek:

you just need to know where your going wrong.......engage the slot on the left and keep it pulled in toward you as you lower the cover, keep it tilted backward so the back touches down first otherwise the 2 captive corner screws drop over the back edge of the base and your trying to screw them into nothing.

Thanks for the reply, I am not sure if the housing is buckled somewhere, all the holes line up but the back left part of the casing (when viewed from front looking into the engine) doesn't go down far enough to allow the screw to make contact with the thread - even tried it without the filter, watching it locate into the part at the back but still no luck.

Are you sure the screw isn't going behind instead of into the threaded hole? That sometimes happens and is the only thing I can think of....

Oh and while your messin with it watch you don't catch/knock the brake fluid level sensor on the reservoir, they break easy.....
