Just bought my first TD5 110.2001 40K miles.Returning 22mpg. Had it tested at garage with computer-no problems showing. Could I be driving it a little too calmly. Doesn't seem to have anywhere near the power of my knackered old 200TDi disco. Any advise on chipping it ????

My new 90 TD5 returns 30 mpg and that's varied driving, including motorway/rush hour. It also goes really well (until the ECU shuts me down but I think it has a fault, see my post)
I had a Renault 5 GT Turbo once, the turbo siezed and it was dog slow and did about 20mpg. I'm sure yours is OK but the symptoms do seem similar.

Quote..."TD5 won't pull the skin off a rice pudding". My (completely standard) Defender 90 goes like a rat up a drain...or at least it does until the ECU decides that I'm driving too fast and cuts the power back! Still trying to fix that one....

My 2004 90 td5 xs has just returned 36 mpg's on last two tanks, this is driving calmly keeping to 50mph on A roads and mostly 60 on motorway/dual carriageway. It has been remapped and will go very well when required to! It did have power issues and has just had a new turbo as per thread.

Just back from 2,500 miles to Italy and back in my 110 TD5 SW. At 80 to 85 mph on Autoroutes I got 300 miles from a full tank. At 70mph this improved to 370 miles.

On local driving I get between 340 and 380 miles depending on traffic etc.

A long run towing a small trailer at steady 50 to 55mph got me over 400 miles.

Aside from the slow uptake it barrels along with reasonable enthusiasm (compared to my old Disco V8) so I suspect yours is a bit off-colour.

I plan to chip it once the warrantee expires.

Anyone had any problems with insurance and chips?

Cheers,
