Just checking with those in the know - tdi engine and or five speed box and or disc brakes -

I am trying to work out if I can change the engine/gearbox and put discs on the front and still be legit - the points system mentions axles & suspension but not brakes - I am keeping the leafs. I think I can change the engine & gearbox but wondered about the front discs - do the bolt on ones count if you keep the original axles.....
Thanks

Because you are modifiying the axles, by changing the brakes that form part of the axle, then you will no longer be able to use them towards the total points for the vehicle, however, as long as you keep the suspension and steering assembly original, you may just have enough points to retain the original ID.

Thanks very much for the advice - what would your thoughts be on the bolt on disc conversion as against various axle cut & shut ideas - still keeping the original leafs - re the points - would it not make any difference - if you change to discs then you have lost the axle points anyway -

if I understand correctly 5 points chassis
2 points suspension
2 points steering

Which means I could scrape by if I only need eight points .....

Why bother with cut & shut disc brakes, when the bolt on ones are just as effective, but easier to fit?

According to my calcs I should have enough points - tax free springs & discs & defender chassis is stretching things too far - I wanted to keep it reasonably pukka just in case. Thanks for the advice.

You can change the engine, box and convert to discs and keep the identity (just). Not my cup of tea personally (you can probably easily buy a vehicle already to that spec) at least you are thinking of brake upgrades which a lot of folks overlook - just remember you are still limited to 2 tons towing capacity even with the more powerful engine and brakes.
